From a Mom & Pop to a One Stop Printing Shop

In 1968 (AL)an Dustin and (CHAR)lotte Foster opened the doors of ALCHAR Printing in West Sand Lake, NY. Jack Hupe and Tom Dowd bought the company in 1978 and at that time Alchar became a union print shop. The need for expansion prompted the move to the Troy location in 1980. The Company’s size and capabilities grew with the purchase of Birkmayer Artcrafters (1982), Schenectady Herold Printing (1986), Vee Printing (1999) and Lower Forty Prepress (2000). In 2000, the company became solely owned and managed by Jack Hupe and Denise Padula. In 2006, Denise Padula officially became the majority shareholder of the company and Alchar Printing became a NYS Certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise. The company continually evolves its products by incorporating new technology, equipment and services.

Alchar has been recognized by The NYS Small Business Development Center as Client of the Year, The Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce with the Van Rensselaer Small Business Award and recently by the Rensselaer County Legislature for having contributed to the vitality of Rensselaer County for over 50 years.. We partner with the community through volunteerism, philanthropy and awareness.
